Remarks: Has no ignition coil for its jump spark ignition system. Engine was made by John F. Nixon Sr. in 1914 from patterns while a student at Carnegie Institute of Technology, Pittsburgh, Pa. Engine was cast at Eastern Mallable Iron, Naugatuck,CT.and in the 1930's installed in a boat he made and ran on Lake Quassapaug in Middlebury, CT. As part of the donation, Mr. Nixon's son Kevin included engine patterns and drawings such that duplicate castings and parts could be produced. At the time of this donation, Mr George King, then the Mystic Seaport Engine Collection Manager , expressed interest in using this material to create a display showing the entire manufacturing process from drawing to finished engine.
