Engine Builder: Fairfield Motor Co.,Bridgeport, CT (uncertain) |
Model: "Old Reliable" ? (see Remarks)
Make: Fairfield Motor Co.
Engine Type: Gasoline
Engine Design: Two-Stroke
Overall Condition: Fair
Remarks: An April 2008 inspection determined engine was not frozen. Engine has hose and fittings installed to allow filling the water jacket with 100 % antifreeze (2/10/93). Head removed for internal inspection; gasket paste (no gasket) used to seat head. Head bolt directly over drive shaft feels like it is going into a nearly stripped or rotted seat. This engine was initially thought to have been built by Palmer, but is more than likely to be an "Old Reliable" by Fairfield Motor Co., Bridgeport, CT. The lack of a builder's plate on this engine makes true identification difficult. Fairfield also made engines under the trade name "Bull Pup". Part of ignition system as well as builder's plate missing. Painted gray; has brass fittings. Complete with flywheel, spark coil, muffler, stuffing box, propeller and shaft.
