History:Seized by US in 1917 and converted to a troopship. After the war she was employed by the United States Mail Steamship Company for a short time, and was then sold to United States Lines in 1921, being reconditioned for trans-Atlantic service. Laid up 1931. Outfitted as troopship in 1940, renamed CATLIN (1941). Reverted to GEORGE WASHINGTON. Funnels replaced by a single modern one. Gutted by fire while laid up at Baltimore, Jan. 16, 1951.
