SWAN (AVP-7, built 1918), small seaplane tender; front of envelope has no cachet; duplicate stamps on right feature portrait of Benjamin Franklin in profile, printed on stamps "UNITED STATES POSTAGE/ FRANKLIN/ 1 CENT 1"; stamps postmarked "U.S.S./ JAN/ 1/ A.M./ 1937/ SWAN"; address stamped on front "V. C. Shank/ Box 55, Route 1/ Hampton, Va."; handwritten on front "T3s NS"; handwritten on back "241". The U.S.S. SWAN was in dry dock during the attack on Pearl Harbor but downed one enemy plane (see correspondence file).
