Description: First day cover for the U.S.S. ARIZONA (BB-39, built 1914), battleship; front of envelope has cachet on left in red ink with a profile of the U.S.S. ARIZONA underway with steam issuing from its stack and a large cloud formation behind the vessel, medallion in upper left with the dome of the United States Capitol Building; printed on top "The Nations Pride"; printed below "UNITED STATES NAVY"; stamp on right depicts George Washington, printed on stamp "UNITED STATES POSTAGE/ 1732 1932/ 3 3/ WASHINGTON/ CENTS"; stamp postmarked "U.S.S. ARIZONA/ 20 JAN/ 10 AM/ 1933"; handwritten on front "R. L. Waerberling/ 628 36th St./ Union City NJ."; handwritten on back "10ยข". The U.S.S. ARIZONA was sunk by one torpedo and eight bombs during the attack on Pearl Harbor (see correspondence file).
