Langford who was a teacher aboard the vessel when it sank May 2, 1961; he used slides in this collection (2002.35.1-657) for lectures about the sinking. The following transcription is from Richard Langford Collection AV 193:2002-5,6: [TCR 01:41:58]: “They’re just playing cards on that little stand there in the lower center. Interesting--Ernest Gann [novelist, previous owner of ALBATROSS] had that installed because it fit the bottom of his typewriter. And he would sit astride there, typing novels as he sailed around the world. (Ques. in background.) Those two--on the left that’s Ted Sahler on the left, he survived. On the right is Robin Wetherell, he did not live.” |
