Description: 35mm color slide from voyage of brigantine ALBATROSS 1960-1961; photographed by Richard E. Langford who was a teacher aboard the vessel when it sank May 2, 1961; he used slides in this collection (2002.35.1-657) for lectures about the sinking. The following transcription is from Richard Langford Collection AV 193:2002-5,6: [TCR 01:37:40]: “Now I kept this picture even though I guess I tried to put one too many on the roll, or something. I don’t know what happened on the right. But I kept it anyway because it had so many views of what was going on in that harbor. There’s a little boat pulled up on land, the other one with just its prow on land, and there’s a wreck down there from the previous hurricane. [Uses light pointer] It’s just been left derelict there on its side. And some of the other fishermen’s boats over there, and small boats down through here. It’s really a beautiful little island [Bequia, Grenadines, West Indies]. If you go over this hill--there are paths over the hill-- you come to a great big white sand beach, miles and miles of it. I suppose it’s not there; it’s proably built up today.”
