Langford who was a teacher aboard the vessel when it sank May 2, 1961; he used slides in this collection (2002.35.1-657) for lectures about the sinking. The following transcription is from Richard Langford Collection AV 193:2002-5,6: [TCR 01:29:45]: “And they had a munitions depot. These windlasses were still functional. You see, we were tied up to some cannon sunk down into the ground there, and these windlasses--you run a line from the windlass up to your topmast and then you wind the windlass down and that careens the ship and you can do one half of the bottom, clean it and paint it. Then you turn the ship around and careen the other side down--clean and paint [Nelson’s Dockyard, Antigua].”
