Langford who was a teacher aboard the vessel when it sank May 2, 1961; he used slides in this collection (2002.35.1-657) for lectures about the sinking. The following transcription is from Richard Langford Collection AV 193:2002-5,6: [TCR 01:24:02]: “Oh, the Pigeon Island Club. At the end of St. Lucia, in the British Islands, there’s a little key called Pigeon Key [Pigeon Island]. Nowadays it has a big high bridge leading back to St. Lucia. But at that time this was a little deserted island where an Englishwoman named Miss Josett Legh had come and put up this little shack. And she rented out some of the shacks to artists and painters and poets and people who wanted to live in them...” |
