Place: British Virgin Islands, Peter Island Date: 1960-1961 Materials: Description: 35mm color slide from voyage of brigantine ALBATROSS 1960-1961; photographed by Richard E. Langford who was a teacher aboard the vessel when it sank May 2, 1961; he used slides in this collection (2002.35.1-657) for lectures about the sinking. The following transcription is from Richard Langford Collection AV 193:2002-5,6: [TCR 01:22:01]: “I[Richard Langford] didn’t know any better. I didn’t own a camera before I went aboard. I bought a cheap little Japanese--something called an Aries Viscount-- for about $70. But it had every gimcrack in the world on it, and I just took pictures that I thought I would like to have. And I didn’t know I couldn’t take pictures of a fire in the middle of the night. But--it was Kodachrome--but I did. And it had a one-nine lens on it that I opened all the way, and that’s why I got some pictures.” |
