Very similar to the sextant, the main/ difference being in the arc which was 45° (sextant/ 60°)./ Most octants were constructed of an ebony frame,/ brass radial arm and ivory scale. The average price/ for an octant in 1760 was £2.12.6, a very good/ investment as they are now valued at around £350./ John Jefferies, Temeraire Antiques, Southampton./ CUNARD"; inside features dinner menu.
