Description: Bank note, five dollars (No. 4741 A.). Note was issued by Omaha City, Nebraska Territory, October 1, 1857. It bears signatures of recorder H. C. Henderson and mayor Jesse Lowe, is engraved with an illustration of port scene with sailor looking through spyglass at unidentified sidewheel steamer and sail vessels in harbor. Seen behind sailor are two men moving crates, a horse-drawn wagon, and a starboard bow view of unidentified vessel. Vignetted engravings of two women and head of a buck are seen. Printed at center: "The City of Omaha/ Will pay FIVE DOLLARS to bearer one/ year after date with interest at 10 per cent/ premium"; "5" printed in orange ink; "FIVE" printed in background of note; printed along bottom "CITY PROPERTY PLEDGED FOR REDEMPTION OF THESE NOTES; engravings by Wellstood, Hay, & Whiting, NY.
