Port beam view of the motor yacht PHANTOM II (ex: SEASCAPE), heading up the Thames River, New London. Fort Griswold monument in Groton, Connecticut, visible in background. PHANTOM II was owned by Frederick T. Bedford in 1949, and is seen here probably as a spectator for the boat races. The vessel was designed by John H. Wells, Inc., and built by Purdy Boat Co., Port Washington, NY, in 1947. She measured 75 feet in length, and had originally been named SEASCAPE. Stamped on original negative sleeve: "123592F / YALE-HARVARD / 1949 / 5058". Handwritten on sleeve: "PHANTOM II". |
