Description: Black and white pen and ink drawing on lightweight cardboard; interior of vessel sailing at considerable angle. From left to right: man pouring cup of liquid from kettle; 5 men sitting-one listening to the conversation; one playing an accordion-like instrument; one trimming a makeshift Christmas tree; one drinking from a mug; one smiling at 2 men in foul weather gear looking through a half-opened dutch door. Signed in lower right corner: "CHARLES ROSNER '27". Title per John Leavitt: "Christmas in the Fo'csle". Part of a series of illustrations done by Rosner (1894-1975) for YACHTING magazine. Born in Langendorf, Germany, Rosner sailed 5 times around Cape Horn on square riggers and served as a Merchant Marine officer before settling down on Long Island to become an artist.
