Instrument is brass with silver dial. Level on either side of dial at right angles to each other. Dial marked "Gregg & Rupp, New York" In box 15 1/2" x 7 1/2". This instrument takes its name from Pierre Vernier (1580-1637), a French mathematician and inventor, who developed fractional scale settings for instruments. |
