Lockwood of Brooklyn, NY, from an original photograph (1963.1767.161) by Capt. George Comer. Used by Comer to illustrate lectures about his Arctic and seafaring experiences. Depicts an Inuit angakok [shaman] wearing an elaborate parka. The man is identified as Qingailisaq, and his costume was inspired by a vision. Photo taken onboard the whaling schooner ERA, west coast of Hudson Bay, ca. 1902.
