Number 2197. Stackpole & Bro. N.Y. Pat'd C.H. Townshend Jan. 31, 1888. Invented in 1887 by Capt. Charles Hervey Townshend of New Haven, Connecticut, the full circle was a simplification and improvement upon the sextant. Case: 11" x 11" x 5 1/2".
