Port broadside view, on port tack and under full sail. Black hull, red bottoms. Land and pilot schooner in distance at left. At bottom center: "Sea Serpent Passing South Head, San Francisco"; lighthouse on hill. Vessel owned by Grinnell and Minturn of NY, sailed the Cape Horn route to California and China until sold to Norway in 1874.
