Title: Bearing compass Accession Number: 1960.650 Category: INSTRUMENTS - COMPASSES Type: bearing compass Maker: Place: Date: Materials: Description: Bearing compass mounted on a wooden base 9 5/8" x 8 3/16", with single upright which is 14 3/8" high. Compass is suspended in gimbals and held level by a suspended weight. A flat disk of brass, graduated in degrees, is set above the compass and may be turned on a pivot in any direction. A sight vane is affixed by a rod set above it for taking observations.
