Port broadside view of black-hulled vessel on port tack. Fully rigged, white side stripe, blue house flag with white ball on foremast; US flag aft. Deckhouse, lifeboat on davits aft. Island fortress left background. Sailboat between shore and island, ship in right background. Below: "Ship AERONAUT of Boston Captn. John Eldridge". Ship built for Horace Grey of Boston, sold to Mallorys as 2nd whaleship in their fleet. Dominating the entrance to the harbor of Elsinore was Kronborg Castle, built c. 1580. A lighthouse was erected in the courtyard of the castle in the 19th century, and the castle was used primarily as a prison. |
