L.; Elliot Brothers Place: England, London Date: Materials: wood; metal; mercury Description: Artificial horizon; in wooden case with hinged lid, 2 hook latches on front, bale handle on right side, keyhole on front (no key), and blank brass nameplate set in lid; contents include: brass[?] bottle containing mercury, slides into brass[?] brace mounted in box and engraved on top "A. & N. C. S. L" [Army & Navy Cooperative Society Ltd], probably made by Elliot Brothers, London; rectangular metal trough (painted black) to pour mercury into; and glass lid composed of metal frame (painted black) with 2 panes of glass mounted at 90 degrees to each other.
