Mounted on board. Attributed to J. Weeks, Norwich, CT., ca. 1883. From 1882 to 1915 New England Navigation Co. operated BLOCK ISLAND as an excursion steamer from Norwich to New London and Block Island with stops at Noank, Mystic Island, Stonington and Watch Hill. 1915 to 1930 she served as boarding house and mess hall for the company in Newport, R.I. In 1930, BLOCK ISLAND was towed to Dyers Island and burned. |
