Description: Oil painting of APC coastal cargo transport JACK OF ALL TRADES. Painted by Joe Duncan Gleason, of Watsonville, CA (1881-1959). JACK OF ALL TRADES was built for the U.S. Navy by the Herreshoff Manufacturing Company of Bristol, Rhode Island. The builder was better known for America┬┐s Cup yachts and highly engineered sailing and motor craft, but launched twenty-two of these wooden, 100-foot coastal cargo vessels (APC) in 1942-43. Similar to a minesweeper in design, this "JACK OF ALL TRADES" was intended for delivering military cargoes in sheltered waters.
