Perpetual calendar engraved on lid. In circle at left is crowned figure labeled "Voor Chris/ -45-"; at right is figure wearing miter and date 1482. On bottom is ship's speed table. At one end is unidentified figure and date 1497; at opposite end is inscription in Dutch. Figure on right represents Pope Gregory XIII, who introduced our current calendar in 1582. |
