Ship SCIENCE. Carved on sheath are 2 crossed harpoons and "The Tickler", "1838." Rim badly chipped, obliterating the "S" and "H" partially in word SHIP. On reverse: L Q/ BOAT. Sheath used near end of 1st voyage & beginning of 2nd voyage. SCIENCE sailed from Portland, ME in 1834 for voyage in Pacific; Capt. Whippey. |
